It is a legal stipulation to protect an individual who cannot make a decision by him/herself, such as a minor or one with disability. Specific terms and processes may be different in each state, but guardianship and conservatorship are similar concepts.
TYPES OF CONSERVATORSHIPS & GUARDIANSHIPS
General/Limited Conservatorship
General Conservatorship is a legal measure in which the court appoints a conservator to support those who have limited ability in daily activities and finance management. Limited Conservatorship is a policy that allows parents of a child with a developmental disability to make a decision for him/her in daily life. Family members and experts in the related disability can be conservators, and the conservator manages the conservatee’s financial and legal decisions.
Guardianship
Guardianship is the process of appointing a guardian for a minor child in place of the parents when they are no longer able to care for the child due to sudden death or special circumstances.
